What is Barite


Barite is a non-metallic mineral with the chemical formula BaSO4. It is also known as barite or heavy spar, one of its main characteristics being that it is an inert, non-toxic material and has a high specific weight, reaching up to 4.5 gr/cc, this last characteristic being where its name comes from. which is from the Greek word baros meaning heavy.

The use of Barite


1. Drilling mud weighting agent

In the drilling of some oil and gas wells, adding barite powder to the mud is an effective measure to increase the specific gravity of the mud, and it is the most commonly used measure in drilling operations to effectively avoid frequent blowout accidents.

2. Zinc barium white pigment

Heating barium sulfate and using a reducing agent can be reduced to barium sulfide (BaS), and then react with zinc sulfate (ZnSO4) to obtain a mixture of barium sulfate and zinc sulfide (BaSO4 accounts for 70%, ZnS accounts for 30%) is zinc barium White paint. It can be used as a raw material for paints and painting pigments, and is a commonly used high-quality white pigment.

3. Various barium compounds

Using barite as raw material, barium oxide, barium carbonate, barium chloride, barium nitrate, precipitated barium sulfate, barium hydroxide and other chemical raw materials can be produced.

4. used in industrial fillers

In the paint industry, barite powder fillers can increase film thickness, strength and durability. In the fields of paper, rubber and plastics, barite can improve the hardness, wear resistance and aging resistance of rubber and plastics. Zinc barium white pigment is also used to make white paint, which has more advantages than lead white and magnesium white in indoor use.

5. Mineralizer for cement industry

The use of barite and fluorite composite mineralizers in cement production has obvious effects on promoting the formation of C3S and activating C3S, and the quality of clinker has been improved.

6. Radiation-proof cement, mortar and concrete

Using barite to absorb X-rays, barite is used to make barium cement, barite mortar and barite concrete to replace metal lead plates to shield nuclear reactors and build scientific research and hospital X-ray-proof buildings.

7. Roadworks

A mixture of rubber and asphalt containing about 10% barite has been successfully used in parking lots as a durable paving material.

8. Other

Barite and oil are mixed and applied to the cloth base to make oil cloth; barite powder is used to refine kerosene; it is used as a contrast agent for digestive tract in the pharmaceutical industry; it can also be used to make pesticides, leather, and fireworks. In addition, barite is also used to extract metal barium, used as a getter and binder for televisions and other vacuum tubes. Barium is alloyed with other metals (aluminum, magnesium, lead, calcium) for use in bearing manufacturing.

Stage 1: Crushing of raw materials

The material is crushed by the crusher to the fineness that can enter the mill(15mm-50mm).

Stage 2: Grinding

The crushed small pieces of material are sent to the storage hopper through the elevator,and then sent to the grinding chamber of the mill evenly and quantitatively through the feeder for grinding.

Stage 3:Classification

Stage 4:Collection of finished products

The powder that meets the fineness enters the dust collector through the pipeline with the air flow for separation and collection, and the collected finished powder is sent to the finished product silo by the conveying device through the discharge port, and then is packaged uniformly.
