As a porous carbonaceous material, activated carbon has a well-developed pore structure and a large specific surface area, and its application fields are becoming wider and wider. The production of activated carbon from wood, fruit shells and high-quality coal has problems such as limited sources of raw materials, inconvenient transportation, and high cost. Petroleum coke resources in refineries are abundant, widely distributed, and low in price. Its carbon content is much higher than that of wood and coal, and its ash and volatile content are low. Guilin Hongcheng is a manufacturer of petroleum coke activated carbon grinding mills. Our petroleum coke activated carbon grinding mills have been widely used in the process of preparing activated carbon from petroleum coke. Today I will introduce you to the detailed explanation of the petroleum coke activated carbon process.
Petroleum coke activated carbon process 1: steam method
Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. published a patent for activating petroleum coke with water vapor at 900 °C in 1974, and the specific surface of the obtained powdered carbon was 600 m2/g. Using petroleum coke as raw material, the process of manufacturing granular activated carbon by physical method is as follows: crush and grind the petroleum coke raw material, make 90% of the coke powder pass through a 180-mesh sieve, undergo chemical treatment, then add a certain proportion of residual oil or pitch, mix evenly in a twin-shaft mixer, and then enter the converter for carbonization after being extruded by a hydraulic press. The carbonization temperature is around 600 °C. After sieving, the carbonized material is activated with superheated steam in the Sleep furnace at 850-900 °C. The activated material is sieved and packaged into finished activated carbon.
Petroleum coke activated carbon process 2: Potassium hydroxide method
Petroleum coke is crushed and sieved, then fully mixed with the activator KOH, dehydrated and pre-activated at 300-500 °C, activated at 700-1000 °C, and finally the activated mixture is cooled, fully washed with water, and dried to prepare high specific surface petroleum coke-like powdered activated carbon.
Petroleum coke activated carbon process 3: high specific surface area activated carbon production process
The petroleum coke with high carbon content is pulverized by a pulverizer, and the 100-200 mesh components are sieved, mixed with a certain proportion of activator and binder, fully stirred and mixed, cold-pressed with a single-punch tablet press, dried and hardened in an oven, put into a microwave vacuum sintering equipment for radiation heating, and finally pickled, rinsed, and dried to obtain the finished activated carbon.
From the above petroleum coke activated carbon process, it can be seen that the pulverization of petroleum coke is an important link in the preparation of activated carbon from petroleum coke. Petroleum coke with different particle sizes has different effects on the results of the original and activator. Experiments have shown that too large or too small petroleum coke particles are not good for the experimental results. If the particles are too large, the contact between the petroleum coke and the activator is insufficient, and the petroleum coke is difficult to be effectively activated, resulting in a decrease in the specific surface area of the activated carbon. If the particle size is too small, the petroleum coke will be in full contact with the activator, and it will be easily overactivated, causing the pore wall of the activated carbon to burn out, the average pore size will increase, and the specific surface area and yield will decrease. Therefore, the petroleum coke activated carbon pulverizer is particularly critical for controlling the particle size of petroleum coke powder.
As a manufacturer of petroleum coke activated carbon mills, the HCQ series pendulum mill produced by Guilin Hongcheng is an ideal equipment for preparing activated carbon pulverization from petroleum coke. It can grind a wide range of materials, and the fineness of the finished product can be adjusted steplessly from 80 mesh to 400 mesh. The equipment runs stably and is low-noise and environmentally friendly. The classifier of this equipment adopts a built-in large-blade cone turbine classifier, and the particle size of the finished product can be adjusted arbitrarily within 80-400 mesh. The particle size control and particle size distribution are good. It is suitable for the production of 100-200 mesh petroleum coke powder and meets the process requirements for preparing activated carbon from petroleum coke.
