Petroleum coke activated carbon process 1: steam method
Japan's Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. published a patent for activating petroleum coke with water vapor at 900 °C in 1974, and the specific surface of the obtained powdered carbon was 600 m2/g. Using petroleum coke as raw material, the process of manufacturing granular activated carbon by physical method is as follows: crush and grind the petroleum coke raw material, make 90% of the coke powder pass through a 180-mesh sieve, undergo chemical treatment, then add a certain proportion of residual oil or pitch, mix evenly in a twin-shaft mixer, and then enter the converter for carbonization after being extruded by a hydraulic press. The carbonization temperature is around 600 °C. After sieving, the carbonized material is activated with superheated steam in the Sleep furnace at 850-900 °C. The activated material is sieved and packaged into finished activated carbon.
